The third season of Syfy’s 12 Monkeys had a cult following to propel it forward, and we’ve got good, bad, and time-turning news on that front. Not only has Season 3 set an official (and unusual) premiere with a first trailer, but a fourth and final season has also been confirmed.

Per Entertainment Weekly, the third season will take the unusual step of premiering its first four (!) episodes on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 P.M., followed by three-episode chunks continuing and concluding the season on Saturday and Sunday. A fourth and final season will air in 2018, comprised of another ten episodes, while you can watch the first Season 3 trailer below:

Says NBCUniversal Cable of the announcement:

12 Monkeys has a dedicated and enthusiastic fan-base thanks to the epic storytelling by Terry Matalas, and the stellar cast and crew. We are thrilled to be able to offer fans an opportunity to binge the third season as a reward for their lasting support, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where Terry takes us with the final chapter of this fabulous story in the fourth season.

We’ll likely see a fuller picture of 12 Monkeys Season 3 in the coming weeks, but stay tuned for the latest. What do we make of that bizarre premiere structure?
