2013 Memorial Day Weekend TV Marathons: Our Guide to What to Watch

2013 Memorial Day Movie Marathon
Sony/Universal (2)/Starz/The CW

For those who hate the outdoors and going on “family outings,” we’ve got plenty of stuff to help you waste some glorious couch time this Memorial Day weekend. There are tons of movie and TV show marathons planned, so sit back, grab your remote and relax — and let us help you decide what to watch. Here are some of the highlights coming this weekend:

Friday

Monster movie marathon — Beginning at 9 AM, SyFy will run a marathon of some of their wackiest monster movies: ‘Mega Piranha,’ ‘Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus’ and ‘Mega Python vs Gatoroid’ (that’s the one with Debbie Gibson and Tiffany).

‘Storage Wars Texas’ marathon — From 3 PM to 4 AM, A&E will run a marathon of the Texas edition of ‘Storage Wars.’

‘Law & Order: SVU’ — Everyone knows this is the best version of ‘Law & Order,’ and you can catch all the drama from 4 PM to 11 PM on USA.

‘Americans on Everest’ — The National Geographic Channel is re-airing their classic 1965 special series on the first group of Americans to scale Everest, narrated by Orson Welles, at 8 PM.

‘Star Wars’ movie marathon — It’s just not Memorial Day weekend (or any holiday weekend, really), without a ‘Star Wars’ marathon. Tune into Spike at 8 PM for ‘Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace,’ and let the journey begin.

‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ marathon — If you’ve been needing to catch up on this show, Starz is re-airing episodes four through six, starting at 9 PM.

Saturday

‘Defiance’ marathon — SyFy continues their Memorial Day fun with a marathon of their new show, ‘Defiance,’ starting at 4 PM.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ marathon — USA continues their ‘SVU’ marathon from 10 AM to 2 AM.

‘Star Wars’ marathon — Spike’s marathon continues at 5:30 PM with a repeat of ‘Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace,’ followed by ‘Episode 2 — Attack of the Clones’ at 9 PM.

Elvis movie marathon — Encore is airing a marathon of Elvis Presley movies, beginning at 5 AM. The selections include ‘Blue Hawaii,’ ‘Paradise,’ ‘Viva Las Vegas,’ and ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ among many others.

War movies marathon — TCM has a great selection of war movies every Memorial Day weekend, and their marathon begins Saturday at 6 AM and ends early Tuesday morning. This year’s picks include ‘Destination Tokyo’ and ‘The Best Years of Our Lives.’

‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ marathon — Starz really wants you to catch up on this series, and starting on Saturday at 9 PM, you can see the first three episodes.

‘Longmire’ marathon — If you haven’t had a chance to watch this A&E series, now’s your chance. The network is airing all episodes from 2 PM to 4 AM.

‘Undercover Boss’ marathon — This TLC reality series sends bosses undercover to work as their own employees. Catch the shenanigans from 2 PM to 3 AM.

Sunday

‘Paranormal Witness’ marathon — SyFy gets spooky on Sunday with a marathon of ‘Paranormal Witness’ beginning at 9 AM, in anticipation of the new season, which starts on June 5.

‘Star Wars’ marathon — Spike will re-air ‘Star Wars: Episode 2 — Attack of the Clones’ at 5:22 PM, followed by ‘Episode 3 — Revenge of the Sith’ at 9 PM.

‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ marathon — Continue the catch-up on Starz with episodes four through six, starting at 9 PM.

‘Jem and the Holograms’ marathon — Classic cartoon channel HUB is airing a truly outrageous marathon of five ‘Jem and the Holograms’ episodes, starting at 12:30 PM.

‘Hatfields & McCoys’ — If you missed this six-hour miniseries starring Bill Paxton and Kevin Costner when it aired last year, the History Channel is giving you a second chance, starting at 6 PM.

Bourdain Binge marathon — Starting at 8 PM on CNN and running until 5 AM on Sunday, you can catch up with Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Parts Unknown’ series with travels to Myanmar, Los Angeles/Koreatown, Canada and more.

Monday

Roger Corman marathon — SyFy goes and saves the best for last, with a marathon of Roger Corman B-movies starting at 8 AM, including ‘Camel Spiders,’ ‘Cyclops,’ ‘Supergator,’ ‘Dinocroc vs Supergator,’ ‘Dinoshark,’ ‘Sharktopus’ and ‘Piranhaconda.’

‘Star Wars’ marathon — If you missed ‘Star Wars: Episode 3 — Revenge of the Sith’ on Sunday, you can catch it again on Spike at 8 PM.

Suspense Files: The Pink Panther Collection — Beginning at 6 AM on Encore Suspense, catch a ‘Pink Panther’ movie marathon starting with ‘Son of the Pink Panther.’ Other titles include ‘Curse of the Pink Panther,’ ‘Revenge of the Pink Panther’ and ‘The Return of the Pink Panther.’

Encore Memorial Day movie marathon — Encore begins its movie trilogy marathon at 8 AM with the ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogies. They’ll also be showing the ‘Lethal Weapon’ trilogy, conveniently forgetting the existence of the fourth movie.

‘Pawn Stars’ marathon — The History Channel will show a marathon of their hit reality series from 8 AM to 9 PM.

‘Falling Skies’ marathon — Starting at 10 AM, TNT will air marathons of the first two seasons of the series in preparation of the season 3 premiere on June 9.

I Need a Hero marathon — Beginning at noon on Starz Edge, the network will air hero-themed films, including ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ ‘The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’ and ‘Men in Black,’ to name a few.
