If you are going to the Cannes Film Festival this year, I hate you.

Don’t take it personally; it’s just full-on jealousy. I envy anyone who gets to enjoy the just-announced 2016 Cannes lineup at the Palais, one of the greatest movie theaters on the entire planet. The planet’s most prestigious and important film fest opens with the new Woody Allen movie, Cafe Society, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, and only gets better from there. Stewart fans will see even more of the actress; she’s also the star of Personal Shopper, the new film Olivier Assayas, which is in the main Cannes competition alongside new work by the Dardenne brothers, Xavier Dolan, Ken Loach, Jeff Nichols, Sean Penn, Park Chan-wook, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Paul Verhoeven. (Oh please tell me we’re on the verge of a Paul Verhoeven comeback. God, I need that.)

The Cannes sidebars are packed too. New Jim Jarmusch! New Shane Black! New Jodie Foster! New Steven Spielberg! It’s just absurd.

The couple of years I got to attend Cannes were all amongst the greatest professional experiences of my life. With this lineup below, I’m pretty confident anyone who attends this year’s festival will feel exactly the same way. Cannes 2016 runs from May 11 through the 22.
