2016 Oscars to Hire a ‘Well-Known’ Duo as Next Year’s Hosts

Last years Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris said almost immediately after the broadcast that he “doubted” he would ever do it again, explaining, “I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it.” Which, of course, meant that the search for a replacement was on almost immediately. But, if you’re looking for just one person, you may be barking up the wrong tree. This year’s Oscars producers say “there will be multiple hosts for sure.”

David Hill, one of the producers of this year’s broadcast, told Entertainment Weekly that they’re looking at two hosts for this year’s show. Considering the last time the Oscars had two hosts it was the notorious Anne Hathaway and James Franco debacle, you might wonder why they would try to pair up two people again. Well, it’s because the people they have in mind are a “team that’s already well-known.”

Hill, who’s producing along with Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained), refused to go into specifics, but EW speculates on two possibilities: Key & Peele and, yes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Even though Key & Peele have no real history in movies, their hit Comedy Central series has proven that they’re huge movie fans. Some of their most popular skits — Liam Neesons and the recent Gremlins 2 bit — are based around their love of film. Hiring Key & Peele would also make sense as the Academy hired Hill and Hudlin to replace previous producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan in an attempt to continue to draw a younger audience. Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris are both great, but neither exactly are big with the kids.

And it’s hard to talk about award hosting gigs without bringing up Fey and Poehler who had a memorable run at the Golden Globes, hosting three years in a row. Everyone loved what they did, but would the Oscars want to play sloppy seconds to the Globes? And, would Fey and Poehler even want to host yet another awards show?

Now, of course, the duo that the Oscars are looking at this year could be someone completely different; this is just speculation at this point. It could be Kermit and Miss Piggy for all we know. But, for all the “well-known” duos out there, who do you think should host?
