‘Fantastic Four’ and ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Sweep the 2016 Razzie Awards

Ah, the Razzies. Looking at the list of nominees for the annual “worst film awards” increasingly makes it seem as though the people behind the Razzies don’t actually watch the worst films of the year, and while Fifty Shades of Grey was hardly 2015’s worst cinematic byproduct, the film managed to sweep the Razzies with five “awards.” Fantastic Four was right behind it with three awards, with both films tying for Worst Picture of 2015. At least they got it half-right.

The 2016 Razzies were held last night, where Fifty Shades of Grey and Fantastic Four tied for Worst Picture, with the former also winning Worst Actor and Worst Actress, along with Worst Screenplay. Josh Trank’s notoriously troubled Fantastic Four won for Worst Director and Worst Remake or Ripoff.

Each year it seems as though the Razzies are trying harder and harder to remain relevant, nominating popular, attention-grabbing films for their annual Worst-Of list. Fantastic Four was undoubtedly worse than Fifty Shades, but looking over last year’s complete list of releases — they seriously couldn’t find anything else worth their scorn? I find that hard to believe. In any case, here’s the full list of “winners,” including Sylvester Stallone, who won the Redeemer Award for his performance in Creed:
