A while back we'd heard the prospect of 'The Hangover' star Zach Galifianakis developing a new FX comedy with Louis C.K. on board to produce, but only today are the fruits of their labor made public. The network has officially ordered 10 episodes of Galifianakis' single-camera comedy 'Baskets,' a clown comedy aiming for launch on FX in 2016.

Written and co-created by executive producers Galifianakis, Emmy-winner Louis C.K., and Emmy-nominated showrunner Jonathan Krisel ('Portlandia,' 'SNL'), here's how FX describes the new 10-episode single-camera series, set to begin production in 2015:

In a world constrained by corporate interests and the homogenization of society, one man in Bakersfield, California dares to follow his dream of becoming a professional clown. But after an unsuccessful enrollment at a prestigious clowning school in Paris, the only job he can find is with the local rodeo. Baskets follows Chip Baskets’ (Zach Galifianakis) pursuit of his dream, against all odds, to be a respected clown.

Says FX president Eric Schrier of the pickup: “Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show. To say Zach’s portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can’t wait for the world to meet him."

FX comedies have been hit and miss of late, with 'Married' and 'You're The Worst' getting moderate reviews but mediocre ratings, while the network recently said goodbye to 'Wilfred,' 'Legit' and very likely, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence's 'Partners.' Also in the works are Billy Crystal and Josh Gad's 'The Comedians,' Tracy Morgan's untitled comedy project, and new seasons of 'Always Sunny' and 'The League.'

It'll be a while yet before 2016, but what do you think? Does Zach Galifianakis as a rodeo clown for 'Baskets' sound like FX's next great comedy?
