Here’s your daily rumor to take with a heaping teaspoon of salt: a new report suggests that Marvel Studios may have canceled The Inhumans, the final film in their Phase 3 plan following Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. It’s not entirely implausible, but what makes this rumor a little difficult to swallow is the idea that Marvel Studios has shelved plans for the project due to ongoing conflicts with Marvel’s TV division.

The rumor comes from Bleeding Cool, who have a decent track record with this sort of thing, but there’s still something a little off about their latest report, which suggests that Marvel Studios has canceled plans for The Inhumans movie in an effort to screw with Marvel TV.

If you’ll recall, Kevin Feige recently managed to get out from under the creative control of Ike Perlmutter, disengaging Marvel Studios from Marvel Entertainment and placing the former under the supervision of Disney — this gives Feige more freedom to run his own ship, while Perlmutter is left to oversee Marvel TV.

As Birth.Movies.Death notes, shelving The Inhumans doesn’t make much sense as an antagonistic move. The characters are currently playing a huge part in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., paving the way for their big screen debut in the MCU. In addition, Adam McKay has expressed interest more than once in writing / directing an Inhumans movie, and since he was very close to signing on for Ant-Man, it seems like Marvel would be interested in getting him for something — anything — else in the near future.

For now, this remains mere speculation, but the acrimony between Feige and Perlmutter has been heavily rumored for some time, and there does appear to be a divide between Marvel’s television and film branches — how deep that divide is and whether it’s actually growing remains unclear, but it seems a bit absurd (and doesn’t make any sense) that Feige would cancel The Inhumans just to spite Perlmutter. Would he cancel or delay The Inhumans for another reason? Maybe. Marvel isn’t shy about shifting their schedule around, as they did just this week to allow for the Ant-Man sequel. File this rumor under “possible.”
