A&E’s Bates Motel checked into a bit of good news earlier today with a two-season renewal, though on the flipside of the coin, it seems as if The Returned remake will head back to the coffin after only one season.

The network quietly confirmed the cancellation alongside news of Bates Motel’s renewal, both series falling under the umbrella of executive producer Carlton Cuse. In addition to low ratings, The Returned was also likely pushed out by the migration of Lifetime’s Omen sequel series Damien, which was announced to jump networks to A&E.

For those unfamiliar with the series (including its original adaptation and premise) A&E’s The Returned focused on a small town that turned upside down when several locals long presumed dead suddenly reappeared, bringing about both positive and negative consequences. Also somewhat blending with ABC’s now-canceled Resurrection, The Returned featured among its cast, Scott Pilgrim star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jeremy Sisto, Sandrine Holt, 24 alum Agnes Bruckner, Arrow baddie Kevin Alejandro, LOST star Mark Pellegrino, and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland castoff Sophie Lowe.

Sad, if unsurprising news, but did The Returned deserve another shot? Did anything about A&E’s adaptation live up to original French series Les Revenants?
