The latest clip from 'After Earth' has been released and man, this one is looking kind of grim for Will Smith and his son Jaden. See why after the jump.

Will Smith and Jaden Smith are father and son in real life and play father and son in fictional life in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan sci-fi flick 'After Earth.' And while that might seem like a fun pairing for the big screen, this latest clip shows us a much darker tone. Will Smith's Cypher Raige tells son Kitai that he must go retrieve a very important beacon from nearby their ship, but that in order to do so, they're going to die. This can't be much of a spoiler if the clip is being released online, and we imagine everything turns out (mostly) fine. But then again this is M. Night Shyamalan so you never know.

The official synopsis:

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

'After Earth' hits theaters on May 31.
