‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ May Not Connect to the ‘Inhumans’ Movie After All

Poor Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. First, Joss Whedon flat-out admits that the TV series get “leftovers” from their cinematic brethren, and now S.H.I.E.L.D.’s one major Marvel tie-in may not get the attention it deserves either. According to Clark Gregg, none of Agents’ work with the Inhumans of Marvel lore may end up tying into the 2019 movie version after all.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Gregg acknowledged that the eventual Inhumans movie was likely to forge its own path, rather than follow any of the guidelines established by the ABC tie-in series, which itself has introduced Inhumans world wide with the breakout of Terrigen Mist. Granted, the Inhumans movie will likely follow major characters and the “Royal Family” of the books, said Gregg of the opportunity for crossover:

That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there’ll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It’d be too bad if that was wasted.

What’s kind of necessary for the show to work is that it is its own thing and it’s not dependent upon those crossovers. They’re just fun stuff that happens once in a while. They destroy the organization our show is named after and we have to deal with that! I’ll be interested to see how it evolves, that crossover stuff.

Inhumans doesn’t yet have any writers or directors to decide whether or not to incorporate Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s groundwork, while it’s likely the ABC series will attempt some small crossover with the events of Captain America: Civil War this coming May. We’d doubt if the reverse proves true, but will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. always get the short end of the stick?
