‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 2: First Look at Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird, With a Hydra Twist

Last night saw Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' kicking off season 2 premiere "Shadows" with more than a few bangs, but the best is yet to come as 'Friday Night LIghts' star Adrianne Palicki suits up as Barbara "Bobbi" Morse, better known as West Coast Avenger Mockingbird. We may yet have some ground to tread before getting there however, as the first photo of Palicki in character comes with a Hydra twist.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Palicki will first appear in October 21 episode "Hen in the Wolf House" (yes, we wrote that correctly), but not quite so heroically as we might have thought. Before we see the character suiting up as any kind of Avenger, we'll first meet Morse as the head of Hydra security! Hopefully, no one takes that whole "cut off one head" thing too literally.

For her part, Morse has been represented through Marvel comics as a top S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and costumed vigilante, though usually without any actual superpowers. Mockingbird also shares a romantic past with Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner in the MCU), though it remains to be seen if 'Agents' can back up such a direct link to the cinematic characters. After all, we did hear Nick Blood's Lance Hunter referencing an ex-wife in last night's premiere.

Elsewhere of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2, we know that Brian Patrick Wade plays Marvel's "Absorbing Man," Hydra mercenary to 'Dollhouse’ star / Whedon favorite Reed Diamond's Daniel Whitehall (Secret Wars’ Kraken). 'Twin Peaks' star Kyle MacLachlan will appear as Skye's apparently-gooey father, while Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill has been confirmed for an eventual reappearance as well.
