As next week's Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2 premiere creeps further and further out of the "Shadows," our renewed optimism for ABC's 'Avengers'-adjacent series only grows. Cue the latest clip from Tuesday's premiere, as new recruit Lucy Lawless goes dark on some rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and has a not-so-friendly encounter with Marvel supervillain The Absorbing Man!

As released by ABC (along with an earlier clip of the premiere), our latest look at 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2 in motion sees Lawless' Isabelle Hartley and Nick Blood's Lance Hunter attempting to fence some wayward "084" tech from a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (hey, Glenn!), before Carl "Crusher" Creel (Brian Patrick Wade) puts his abilities to good use making off with the intel. Even May, Skye and Trip's intervention can't put a dent in the Absorbing Man, while Agent Director Coulson leads the group from home base.

'Agent Carter' and her Howling Commandos not withstanding, here's how ABC describes September 23 premiere "Shadows":

Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources--but that's not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?

Guest starring are B.J. Britt as Agent Antoine Triplett, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrian Pasdar as Brigadier General Glenn Talbot, Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie, Patton Oswalt as Agent Billy Koenig, Lucy Lawless as Isabelle "Izzy" Hartley, Wilmer Calderon as Idaho, Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Brian Patrick Wade as Carl Creel, Matthew Glave as Roger Browning, Simon Kassianides as Sunil Bakshi, George Stephanopoulos as self, Raquel Gardner as Carla Talbot, Ben Turner Nixon as Hydra Officer, Franco Vega as Military Leader, Rich Ceraulo as Soldier #1, and JB Tadena as Private Tilden.

Elsewhere of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2, we know that 'Dollhouse’ star / Whedon favorite Reed Diamond will take the role of Daniel Whitehall (Secret Wars’ Kraken) as a Hydra baddie. 'Twin Peaks' star Kyle MacLachlan will appear as Skye's apparently-gooey father, while Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot and Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill have been confirmed for an eventual reappearance as well, and 'Friday Night Lights' star Adrianne Palicki will play Barbara Morse, better known as Marvel's "Mockingbird."

You can check out the latest 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2 clip from "Shadows" above, and tell us what you want to see when ABC's 'Avengers'-adjacent drama returns on September 23! Don't forget to catch up with everything you've missed in our refresher below!
