At this point, every new image from Alien: Covenant is just another tick on the most passively annoying countdown clock — annoying because we have no idea how much time is left before the first official trailer finally arrives, but it has to be very soon by now. With the holiday weekend imminent, our money’s on sometime between tomorrow and Sunday, and it’s kind of fun to imagine watching a trailer for a new Alien movie first thing on Christmas morning as your family looks on in horror — especially if the trailer is anything like this new image.

20th Century Fox released yet another new teaser image on the official Alien Anthology Twitter account, and like all proper Christmas gifts, this one is wrapped up…IN BLOOD (insert dramatic music cue here):

It also comes with another one of those pesky number sequences, which…yeah, I’m not even trying to figure that out, but I assume it has something to do with counting down to the trailer’s release.

Alien: Covenant stars Katherine Waterston as Daniels, the leader of a colony ship that lands on a seemingly uncharted paradise and soon makes a very unpleasant discovery (or lots of them; you know how these things roll):

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Fassbender will actually play two characters in the film: The synthetic David from Prometheus, and Walter, a newer and friendlier model of the same droid. The film also stars Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz and Carmen Ejogo, with James Franco recently confirming his late addition to the cast.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19, 2017.
