From the moment Felicity Jones was cast in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' fans have been wondering who she could possibly be playing and everyone came to the same conclusion: she's playing the Spidey antihero and on-and-off-again love interest known as the Black Cat. But now Jones has dropped a few more hints about her mystery role and it sounds like we were all very, very wrong.

Speaking with View London (via IndieWire), Jones was asked about her work in the film for the nth time and she dropped a little morsel for all of us to chew on:

It’s all quite shrouded in secrecy, but I’m the Goblin’s girlfriend -- I’m in a relationship with him, and his accomplice. I’m on the dark side.

But of course, she couldn't say too much:

I can’t say actually. It’s all in the vaults of Marvel. I love all that secrecy, I think it’s great. It builds anticipation, there’s too much transparency in everything these days.

So, if Jones is playing "the Goblin's girlfriend," we can probably rule out Black Cat. However, we can easily rule in Lily Hollister, AKA, Menace. In the comics, Lily/Menace is Harry Osborn's (Dane DeHaan) girlfriend, who gains superpowers and an evil disposition after coming into contact with the Osborn family's special stash of Goblin serum. Naturally, she uses her newfound great power to waive all responsibility and become a menace for Spider-Man.

Yes, that all makes sense. But we could still be wrong. We won't say anything is a fact until we see an official announcement and even then, please allow us to be slightly skeptical. Following superhero movie news is like navigating a mine field, with lies and half-truths in place of explosives.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' will presumably make a big splash at Comic-Con in the coming days. The rest of us will get to see it when it opens in theaters on April 17th, 2014.
