We're just days away from 'American Horror Story: Coven' conjuring up its dark premiere, the first footage of which has already surfaced, but could the FX horror-drama have the potential to spawn a companion series spinoff, despite changing its setting each year? What season 4 ideas will be previewed with the coming year? Creator Ryan Murphy weighs in, and the results may surprise you.

Following a premiere screening of 'Coven's first hour yesterday, Murphy opened up about the possible futures of the franchise, in particular stating that the concept for 'American Horror Story' season 4 had already been locked down, and will likely end up previewed toward the end of 'Coven.' “We might have the [Coven] finale and then announce at end of the show what next year is by doing some visual thing. I think the last image of the season is what you’re getting next year.”

As for the prospect of a spinoff, which would presumably bring about a different vision of horror than the premise-hopping nature of its parent series, Murphy had this to say on the notion:

[FX president] John Landgraf and I have always spoken about that this show is ripe to spin something off, to do something different. I don’t know. We’re talking about it. I love this season, I love the cast, I love what it’s about, I love that set more than life itself.

Along with the official footage and cast portraits of season 3 that have made their way online, we know that the third season of Ryan Murphy’s breakout horror hit will move back and forth between both present and 1830s New Orleans in a battle between witches and voodoo. ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ will also welcome newcomers Danny Huston, Christine Ebersole, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Leslie Jordan and Gabourey Sidibe, along with returning franchise regulars Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Denis O’Hare, Alexandra Breckinridge, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson.
