'American Horror Story' isn't quite the juggernaut for FX that 'The Walking Dead' marks for AMC, though this should come as no surprise. Following the fourth season 'Freak Show''s record-breaking debut last week, FX has officially granted a fifth season to Ryan Murphy's horror-thriller, bringing us another all-new 'American Horror Story' in October 2015.

Curiously buried in the body of FX's latest press-release, the fifth season of 'American Horror Story' will consist of another 13 episodes next year, presumably with an all-new story and setting. The 'Freak Show,' meanwhile, provided the highest viewing numbers of the franchise to date, 10 million overall, with subsequent encores netting over 13 million.

Says FX of the news:

The American Horror Story anthology has had the highest growth trajectory of any show in FX history, not to mention an unprecedented track record of success in awards recognition. With Ryan Murphy and his partners, Brad Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto and Tim Minear at the helm, the show’s success is not surprising. AHS continues to deliver amazing stories, a brilliant troupe of actors led by Jessica Lange, and a visual style unlike any other on TV.

With Nip/Tuck, Glee, The Normal Heart, and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy has established himself as one of the most successful and prolific producers of this generation. We expect AHS: Freak Show and the next incarnation of AHS to further his legacy.

Of course, series lead Jessica Lange has repeatedly touted the fourth 'American Horror Story' cycle as her last with the franchise, though we'll see how much money the network throws around to keep her in place. Ryan Murphy himself will keep plenty busy as well, spearheading "companion series" 'American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,' which we must remind you, is still not a joke.

We've included the latest preview for this Wednesday's new 'Freak Show' installment and beyond below, but what say you? Are you at all surprised / happy to have 'American Horror Story' season 5 arriving in 2015?
