American Horror Story has fallen into a pattern (among other things), alternating between period and contemporary settings, so leave it to Ryan Murphy to switch things up in Season 6. The next Horror Story will indeed return to the past, but also keep one foot firmly planted in the present as well. Confused yet?

Less than a week after Lady Gaga’s inexplicable Golden Globe win for Hotel, American Horror Story and FX boss John Landgraf confirmed to TVLine that the next round would dabble in both modes. “It’s set in two time periods,” said the network head, “but principally in the present.”

This early in the game, precious little of the sixth season has been revealed, other than to expect the premiere in fall, as per usual. Murphy recently confirmed that he had a shocking part in mind for franchise veteran Angela Bassett, though it remains unclear if Gaga will keep on as the series’ lead, following Ryan Murphy’s previously unaddressed invitation.

American Horror Story will likely drop further Season 6 details over the coming months, but can we really expect two different time periods? Will at least one of them be set in space? These are the real questions we need to ask, people.
