We already knew Ryan Murphy was plotting a “secret” American Horror Story season, so we wouldn’t exactly call this a jump-scare. Three episodes into American Horror Story: Roanoke, FX has booked a return visit in 2017 with an official Season 7 renewal. Start your insufferable speculation!

Even as the secrecy approach stifled the initial American Horror Story Season 6 ratings, FX confirms that anthology franchise will return for another indeterminate round of episodes next year. So says the network:

Ryan, Brad and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment. The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.

No word on whether Season 7 would again try to keep its premise under wraps, but you can check out the fourth Roanoke episode this Wednesday, before Season 6 throws out its premise midway through anyway.
