Generally a decade-late sequel is nothing short of a cash grab, but there does seem to be a reason to revisit the gang from the 'American Pie' films ten years on. Since the original series is about watching them grow up, why not check in (Michael Apted-Style) years later to see how they're doing? "American Reunion' is due out April 6, and for now there's one last red band trailer.

The main thing to note is that they got everyone back, from the five main boys (Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Seann William Scott, and Eddie Kaye Thomas) to bit players like Chris Owen's Sherminator, and John Cho's Milf-chanter. One of the pleasures of the first film is that there is a huge cast, with everyone having memorable bits (the sequels left some characters high and dry, or - for the third film - cut out completely).

The film has junketed, and word has been mixed, but don't be surprised if this makes a lot of money because the audience that grew up with these films will likely welcome the nostalgia. And this trailer makes it clear (as did the sequels) most of the jokes and premises are based on riffs on the original material. My big hope is that they let one of the main characters be a failure in life.
