Amy Adams Wins Best Actress, Comedy at the 2014 Golden Globes

Amy Adams has just taken home the Best Actress in a musical or comedy film statue at the 2014 Golden Globe awards for her performance in 'American Hustle,' announced on Sunday, January 12, during the ceremony hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Adams' win comes on the heels of co-star Jennifer Lawrence taking home a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 'American Hustle' as well. 

Adams was up against some pretty stiff competition, beating out Julie Delpy in 'Before Midnight,' Greta Gerwig in 'Frances Ha,' Julia Louis-Dreyfus in 'Enough Said,' and the one and only Meryl Streep in 'August: Osage County.' Beating Streep is a pretty huge deal, as Adams seemed to be aware. Streep seemed to be the expected winner, as she usually is whenever the veteran actress is nominated for any major award.

'American Hustle' was directed by David O. Russell and was loosely based on the real-life ABSCAM scandal of the '70s. In the film, Adams played the mistress of Christian Bale's con-artist character and the woman who helps him ensnare gullible marks. Adams has previously been nominated for four Golden Globe awards, including Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Russell's 2010 film 'The Fighter.'
