The Janis Joplin biopic starring Amy Adams is still alive and very much kicking: the currently titled and long-gestating ‘Get It While You Can’ was previously set to be directed by Lee Daniels (of ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’), but it looks like Daniels has been replaced by Jean-Marc Vallee, director of ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and the upcoming film ‘Wild.’

‘Get It While You Can’ has had some bumps over the last few years, but Adams has remained firmly committed to the project, even though it’s had some trouble landing a director. ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ director Sean Durkin was once in talks, and more recently Lee Daniels was set to direct the project—since then, Durkin has moved on to a ‘Little House on the Prairie’ adaptation, and Daniels is prepping a horror film based on a true-life story.

Deadline reports that Vallee, who most recently directed the acclaimed upcoming Reese Witherspoon drama ‘Wild,’ is signing on to direct the Joplin biopic, which would star Adams as the legendary soul rocker. Vallee previously directed actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto to Oscar wins for their roles in ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ and Witherspoon is earning some early awards season buzz for her part in ‘Wild.’

The pairing of director, actress, and project seems like a perfect match, and one that might make for a winning combo come awards season.
