Amy Schumer is one of the smartest, funniest and most exceptional voices in comedy right now. Thanks to her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer and her upcoming film Trainwreck (directed by comedy king Judd Apatow), Schumer is off the charts right now — and when you’re that much of a big deal in comedy, an HBO special is inevitable. Schumer is set to headline her very first comedy special for HBO, and she’s landed someone to direct who’s more than a little familiar with the network.

According to Variety, HBO has tapped Schumer for her first comedy special, with Chris Rock set to direct. Rock has headlined five of his own acclaimed stand-up specials for the network over the years, accumulating plenty of knowledge on the finer points of staging great televised performances.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo had this to offer in an official statement:

Amy is one of the most inspired comics working today, and we hope her first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship. This event is even more special because our good friend, the incredibly talented Chris Rock, is directing.

Schumer is one of the biggest, boldest voices in comedy right now, and many of the sharp sketches from her Comedy Central series are heavily shared on social media each week, garnering more and more acclaim for her thoughtful and impeccably clever approach.

I have no doubt that the comedian’s new HBO special will join the quality ranks of comedians like Rock and Louis C.K. before her, who have delivered some of the best stand-up specials in the network’s history.
