Andrew Garfield Joins Martin Scorsese's 'Silence'Britt Hayes |
Martin Scorsese is certainly one of our most beloved -- and busiest -- working directors, and working with him is on pretty much every actor's bucket list. According to Variety, Andrew Garfield can scratch this one off of his because the actor has just signed on to star in Scorsese's latest project, 'Silence.'
Scorsese is currently wrapping production on 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' set to hit theaters later this year, but he's already lined up his next project -- 'Silence' is a film Scorsese has wanted to make for roughly 20 years. Based on the novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo, the story follows a 17th century Portuguese Jesuit who travels to Japan with another priest when he discovers that his mentor is leaving the church. The story takes place during a time in which Christianity was persecuted in Asia, and those practicing the faith had to do so in private.
Ken Watanabe also stars in the film, which deals heavily with the roots of religion and faith, and has long interested Scorsese, who dreamed of entering the priesthood as a child.
