With Spider-Man: Homecoming on the horizon, Sony is getting ready to swing into action with another Spidey adventure — an animated, untitled project that doesn’t take place within the live-action continuity, and features fan-favorite Miles Morales (not Peter Parker) in the lead. Today, the studio took a major step forward with the animated film, as they’ve officially found the voice of Miles.

THR reports that Shameik Moore will lend his voice to the title role in Sony’s new animated Spider-Man film, which will feature Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker. Moore currently stars on Netflix’s The Get Down, and previously appeared in indie hit Dope. First introduced in 2011, Morales is a half-black, half-Latino teen who takes up the web-slinging mantle in the Ultimate Comics series (which was not related to the main Marvel comics continuity). Miles was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, who loosely based the character on President Barack Obama and actor / musician Donald Glover.

The report also notes that Liev Schreiber has been cast in the role of the film’s villain, though specifics on his character are being kept secret for now.

Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) will co-direct the untitled Spider-Man project from a script by Phil Lord, who is executive producing the film with The LEGO Movie and Han Solo collaborator Chris Miller. The film does not yet have a release date.
