We’ve seen it before, the actor or actress who ends up making a drastic haircut in order to properly slip into their big role. Natalie Portman got a buzz cut in front of the camera during shooting for ‘V for Vendetta,’ Emma Stone went from a redhead to a blonde for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘ and now Anne Hathaway throws her long locks into the hair ring.

In the big screen version of ‘Les Misérables,’ Anne Hathaway is to play Fantine which is a rather intense role not only because of the emotional crippling journey that the character goes through but the physical changes she has to sustain throughout the progress of the movie. One of those changes happens to do with her hair, meaning that she cuts it all off for money that she can send to Cosette (Amanda Seyfried).

‘Les Misérables’ is being directed by Oscar winner Tom Hooper with an all star cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter and Samantha Barks. The movie will arrive in theaters everywhere on December 14, 2012.

You can check out the picture of Anne Hathaway with her new head of shortened hair down below. She may not look like the happiest person, and why would she be? One of the scariest things that can ever happen to a woman is if she has to chop off all of her hair. Sure, this is for a role, but we can only imagine how poor Ms. Hathaway must be feeling right now. Don’t worry Ms. Hathaway, we know this is a small sacrifice you have to make for what surely will be a great performance!
