‘Ant-Man’ Gets an Official Synopsis and New Character Details

Director Peyton Reed just wrapped filming on Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ last week, but there’s still been a question mark hovering around some of the film’s other characters—we know who Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll are playing in the film, but what about the rest of that awesome cast? Marvel has officially released the synopsis and some character details for the upcoming film, which will mark the end of the studio’s Phase 2 slate.

For as much as we’ve been tracking the progress on ‘Ant-Man,’ there are still some things we haven’t known, like who exactly are Bobby Cannavale and Michael Peña playing? But Marvel released more information today, starting with the plot description, which we know we’ve seen floating around before:

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Rudd plays Scott Lang, of course, while Douglas plays Hank Pym, Lilly is Hope Van Dyne, and Stoll is Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket. As for the rest of the cast: Bobby Cannavale is Paxton, Michael Peña is Luis, Judy Greer is Maggie, rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris is Dave, David Dastmalchian is Kurt, Wood Harris is Gale, and Jordi Mollà is Castillo.

You’ll notice there are some new names thrown in the mix, like T.I., Harris, Dastmalchian, and Mollà. You’ll also undoubtedly notice that we’re given the characters’ first names but no other details. Who is this mysterious Maggie? Who is Dave? We’ll find out when ‘Ant-Man’ hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
