The addition of Supergirl to The CW lineup of course demanded an epic four-way crossover with Arrow, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, though fans of Glee alum Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin in particular have clamored for the talented casts to put their pipes to good use. Stephen Amell has put his green boot down, however, wanting to get Arrow back to its grounded roots, rather than go anywhere near musical territory.

By now, fans of all four series have drawn plenty of attention to the rich voices in their casts, including Flash stars Gustin, Jesse L. Martin and Carlos Valdes, Supergirl’s Benoist and Broadway star Jeremy Jordan, or Arrow’s own John Barrowman and Colin Donnell, among many others. We’ve seen Flash occasionally nod to said talent, between Barry and Caitlin’s karaoke duet, or Earth-2 Joe’s lounge singing, but Stephen Amell isn’t particularly interested in taking part.

Speaking with MTV News, the actor drew a firm line at the four-way crossover taking any kind of musical bent:

No. I’m out! I’m the first one. I get to draw the line, and I draw the line at musical … They have to show me how they’re going to do this magical four-show crossover. It was hard enough when it was two shows and mixing in Legends a little bit. To make it four shows? I’m dumbfounded.

That said, Amell’s heart is certainly in the right place, relaying that he’d spoken with writers personally to help get Arrow back on track, and return to its street-level roots in Season 5:

I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I think the writers have as well. We had a discussion, and I said, ’Look man. Arrow was set up as a very specific thing, and it’s up to us to do what we do. And what we do, we do better than anyone else on TV.’ Part of the price of success is that we’ve had to introduce other shows. We can always get around new powers and people from other planets, but it is important that when all that dust settles that we are focussing on what we do well.

We’ve heard as much said of the new big bad as well, but surely at least Flash-Supergirl karaoke has to be waiting in the wings, once Kara settles onto The CW, right? You can’t take that away from us, Stephen. No ice cream for you.

In any case, get an earful of some of the cast’s musical talent below, and keep it here for all things crossover and Arrow Season 5.
