The moment Arrow and The Flash set up an animated Vixen series set inside the CW TV universe, DC fans had to wonder when the character might join Oliver Queen or Barry Allen in live-action. That day will arrive in 2016, as Megalyn Echikunwoke will reprise her role from the animated series on Arrow, but is another spinoff in the works?

Per TVInsider, Vixen voice Echikunwoke will continue her role as DC superheroine Mari McCabe in an upcoming Arrow episode, having been established as the totem-wielding hero across six episodes of the CW Seed animated series, which itself featured Stephen Amell reprising his role. Sources say Echikunwoke will appear in the season’s fifteenth episode on February 24, though no story details have yet been made available.

Says producer Marc Guggenheim:

We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Vixen (real name Mari McCabe) gains her powers from a Tantu Totem inherited from her parents, which grants her the abilities of any animal. It was perhaps thought that Vixen’s abilities might prove difficult on a live-action TV budget, but hey, if they can make Legends of Tomorrow, Hawk people, and giant land sharks work, right?

In the meantime, Arrow will have something of a cliffhanger to return to on January 20. How well will Vixen fit in live action in February? Are DC bosses chumming the waters for another spinoff?
