Ubisoft has announced Assassin's Creed Pirates, a mobile game that will flesh out the world of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

According to Ubisoft, players will be able sail the open seas to fight in real-time naval battles, controlling cannons, mortar and swivel guns in order to take on their enemies. Ships can be upgraded using bounties collected from sinking foes or treasures found while exploring.

Players will follow the tale of Alonzo Batilla on his journey to become an amazing pirate in the Caribbean. You'll be able to explore harbors, exotic islands and many other environments in the game, all with breathtaking new visuals that will supposedly raise the bar for mobile games.

Pirates is set to drop in Fall 2013, probably around the same time Black Flag is supposed to be released, so expect it to debut in late October or early November for high-end smartphones and tablets.
