Playmates Lionizes ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ With New Diecast Figures [Review]
To tie into the third season's release, Playmates launched a new wave of Voltron: Legendary Defender toys, including a set of diecast figures that could combine to form the massive mech. Though the set isn't entirely cast in metal, the figures are a fair representation of the real robotic lions that combine to make a Voltron perfect for defending your desk.
‘Star Wars Battlefront II’ Starfighter Assault Mode Will Let You Fly as Poe Dameron, Darth Maul, and Boba Fett
Earlier this summer, we got our first hands-on time with Star Wars Battlefront II, DICE's follow-up to the pretty, yet unspectacular, rebooted Battlefront. The upcoming sequel is taking a lot of influence from DICE's other shooter series Battlefront, which bodes well for multiplayer die-hards, but Battlefront II will be about more than just ground battles across the Star Wars saga. At GamesCom this week, DICE unveiled the first look at Starfighter Assault, the new space-based vehicle combat mode that ramps up the action from the first game in ways we've only dreamed.
The Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Make For One Motley Crew [Review]
This week Marvel's galavanting galactic heroes hit home video, and we're taking a look at the second series of Hasbro's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 Marvel Legends figures to mark the occasion. What Hasbro did with the first wave left us fairly impressed, but the roster for the second batch had us just as excited. Nebula, Gamora, Rocket (with little Baby Groot), and a Mantis build-a-figure? Yeah, that might be something we're interested in.
‘Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier’ Expands on the Cinematic Story Between Sequels
Last year, we first heard word a new video game set in the modern Planet of the Apes cinematic timeline would be coming out in conjunction with War for the Planet of the Apes. The movie's release came and went, and there was nary a whisper about this video game. Today, Andy Serkis's Imaginarium Studios finally revealed what it had been working on for the past year. Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier will be a cinematic adventure game that delves into the war between humans and apes during the years between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.
Hot Toys’ Grand Moff Tarkin Figure Will Deal With Your Rebel Friends Soon Enough
Thirteen years ago to the day, the world lost Peter Cushing. Best known for his roles in Hammer horror films and Star Wars, the actor has always been revered as one of England's favorites. It's been a long time since there's been a proper Grand Moff Tarkin action figure with a truly genuine Cushing likeness, but Hot Toys has finally managed to do justice to one of the Galactic Empire's most brilliant commanders.
Leia and Rey Lead The Action Figure Adventures For Hasbro’s ‘Star Wars: Forces of Destiny’ [Review]
The first wave of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny animated episodes dropped earlier this summer, with even more planned to come as the year continues. As part of that release, Hasbro has finally unleashed its wave of Forces of Destiny collectibles on the hungry masses, including new action dolls and role-play accessories for kids. Never one to pass up a good Star Wars toy, we snapped up the new Princess Leia and Rey adventure sets to get an idea of what Forces of Destiny's toy line had to offer.
Step Into ‘Star Wars’ Like Never Before With New VR Experiences Coming to Disney Resorts
For the past few years ILMxLAB, Industrial Light and Magic’s Experience Lab, has been developing new ways to enjoy Star Wars using the latest virtual and augmented reality technologies. We've seen some samples of ILMxLAB’s projects in that time, but nothing beyond a very nice tech demo has been released to the public so far. That changes this winter when ILMxLAB and The Void will team to release Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire. Billed as a full-immersive virtual reality experience, Secrets of the Empire will let you actually enter that galaxy far, far away by simply dropping a visor down over your head.
The Justice League Assembles For Kotobukiya’s New Statue Series
The DC Cinematic Universe has been building to the arrival of the Justice League, and this November that will finally happen. To celebrate the uniting of the League, Kotobukiya is releasing a complete set of all six members of the superteam in the film. The best part is, you won't have to wait long after Justice League's release to get your hands on these fine art pieces, as they start arriving just in time for the holidays.
DC Collectibles Celebrates ‘Girl’s Night Out’ With Its Latest Animated Batman Set [Review]
One of the great things about Batman’s rogues’ gallery is how prominent the women of Gotham City’s underworld are among the other villains taking up the Dark Knight’s time. This was especially true of the animated adventures, with both Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures focusing on the femme fatales with regularity. Heck, BTAS even gave us one of the most popular characters in DC Comics’ history, with the emergence of Harley Quinn. It’s with that in mind that DC Collectibles paid tribute Gotham’s most wanted women in a special pack commemorating the all-female ensemble episode of New Batman Adventures, “Girl's Night Out.”
Daredevil Escapes Comic-Con With One of Hasbro’s Finest Figures [Review]
Daredevil's history stretches back more than 50 years, though he's truly only come to relevance in the larger pop culture conversation these past few years. While it's true Matt Murdock is one of the first disabled superheroes, and has had dalliances with pop culture notoriety in the past, his arrival as the first of Marvel's Netflix heroes made him more a part of the zeitgeist than ever before. No number of successful comic book runs on his self-titled book can compare with Netflix's subscriber numbers, and his turn in the spotlight is well-deserved, if a bit late for longtime fans. With a co-starring turn on The Defenders just ahead, Hasbro gave ol' horn head a special edition release at Comic-Con, celebrating the blind hero's fame with a fantastic 12" action figure.
