Just how big are advance ticket sales for 'The Avengers'? They're so big that right now, they're blowing every other superhero movie made by Marvel Studios out of the water.

MovieTickets.com has reported, via Deadline, that the Joss Whedon-directed Marvel superhero team-up is "pre-selling more tickets" that both 'Iron Man' movies, 'Thor' and 'Captain America' combined at this same point in their sales, with just over a week to go before the movie hits screens (poor old 'The Incredible Hulk' seems to get left out of these conversations, although it's a Marvel movie too).

The online ticketing agency adds that sales for 'The Avengers' are one and a half times that of the four titles combined at this same junction, and further breaks down the numbers individually. 'The Avengers' is moving 3,995 percent more tickets than 'Captain America,' 1,034 percent more tickets than 'Thor,' 114 percent more tickets than 'Iron Man 2,' and 1,406 percent more tickets than 'Iron Man.' 56 percent of sales are for 3D showings, while 37 percent of the tickets purchased are for IMAX 3D.

We don't know if other big online ticket sellers like Moviefone and Fandango are seeing the same numbers, but one thing is clear: 'The Avengers' is not only almost certain to have Marvel's biggest opening weekend ever, but it could well eclipse 'The Dark Knight' ($158 million) for the best opening ever by a superhero film. And beyond that...who knows?

How far do you think 'The Avengers' can go at the box office? Do you already have your tickets and how are you seeing the movie -- in 3D, IMAX 3D, or plain old 2D?
