Although the traditional formula seems to have officially come to an end, the spirit of 'Jackass' lives on in 'Bad Grandpa,' which sees the indestructible Johnny Knoxville creating all kinds of uncomfortable situations and causing himself all kinds of physical harm while buried under several layers of old man prosthetics. The new red band trailer confirms that this movie is exactly what you think it is. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is entirely up to you.

Breaking from the episodic, prank-driven format of the original 'Jackass' series and film trilogy, 'Bad Grandpa' sees Knoxville pulling a Sacha Baron Cohen and taking his character out in to the "real world," using the footage of horrified onlookers to create a loose narrative. In short, it's a long series of pranks tied together with a plot. Cohen was able to pull off this kind of film quite well with 'Borat,' so it'll definitely be interesting to see if Knoxville can match him. He's undoubtedly a talented guy, but can his grandfather character carry a whole movie?

Here's the official synopsis:

86 year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companion, his 8 year-old Grandson Billy in 'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.' This October, the signature Jackass character Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on film.

Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term childrearing. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants (and their equally disgruntled mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens.

'Bad Grandpa' arrives on October 25, 2013.
