Kurt Sutter’s FX Sons of Anarchy followup The Bastard Executioner has hacked off a few teasers and trailers by now, but we still haven’t found the strongest sense of the new medieval-set series. That changes with a full behind-the-scenes trailer for the series, chock full of testimony from cast and crew, and new footage.

In addition to a much clearer (and more tragic) view of the story, FX’s latest look at The Bastard Executioner also affords us our first opportunity to hear Sons of Anarchy alum Katey Sagal as the mysterious Annora of the Alders. Time will tell if Anarchy fans latch onto the Bastard so fiercely, but the new promo at least offers our most in-depth look yet.

The Bastard Executioner follows “a warrior knight in King Edward III’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.” Lee Jones will play the title role, with will True Blood star Stephen Moyer acting as his right hand man Milus, Katey Sagal appearing as “Annora of the Alders,” and even native Welshman and The Americans lead Matthew Rhys lands in a guest role.

The full Bastard Executioner cast list also offers an expansive preview of the new series, but in the meantime, you can check out the teaser trailers below, and stay tuned for the FX premiere on September 15.
