Benedict Cumberbatch Might Bring His Awesome Name to ‘August: Osage County’

Benedict Cumberbatch -- he of awesome name and inherent British classiness -- is currently in talks to join the ever-growing cast of 'August: Osage County,' which already packs the one-two classy punch of Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.

THR reports that Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to join the cast of 'August: Osage County,' the adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play in development with John Wells at the helm at the Weinstein Company. George Clooney is producing, making this a project we think we'd totally like to have drinks with sometime if it would just give us a call.

The film boasts the already impressive line-up of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Margo Martindale and tells the story of a family of women whose lives have gone down very different paths, but -- as these things go -- a tragedy draws them back home where they reunite with their dysfunctional mother (Streep). Cumberbatch would play the role of a sensitive nephew, son of character Mattie Fay Aiken (Martindale), who hasn't told her son that his father (Chris Cooper) isn't his biological father, and that he's really the product of an affair.

Cumberbatch recently wrapped production on Steve McQueen's 'Twelve Years a Slave' with Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender and will also be heard as the voice of the dragon Smaug in this December's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.'
