Regardless of network, any DC drama populating the airwaves will inevitably draw questions of a move or crossover with The CW multiverse. Case in point, FOX’s Black Lightning previously sought to keep separate from the other series, but now may end up on The CW regardless, and with a pilot order at that.

Per Deadline, the Greg Berlanti-produced Black Lightning may follow Riverdale’s lead to move from FOX to The CW, at least insofar as securing an official pilot order. There’s no explicit guarantee that a move to The CW would place it in the same, or even adjacent universe as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl or Legends of Tomorrow, but hey, that four-way crossover ain’t gonna top itself next season.

The series previously held a pilot production commitment at FOX, produced by Berlanti with The Game and Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil. So reads the series synopsis, which Deadline notes could now see greater emphasis on the character’s young daughters:

Jefferson Pierce made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend — Black Lightning.

Black Lightning is notable as one of DC Comics’ first major African-American superheroes, and would follow as one of the first to headline a live-action series. The comic character also has two daughters, including Anissa Pierce/Thunder and Jennifer Pierce/Lightning, both of whom have belonged to different superhero groups.

FOX apparently declined to order a pilot, given its wealth of genre shows like Gotham and Lucifer, and its incoming X-Men and The Passage dramas. Is The CW too crowded for another DC drama, or is Black Lightning a natural fit?
