For the first time in franchise history, Activision and Treyarch are making a paid Call of Duty add-on 100% free for a limited time. This weekend, you'll be able to enjoy all the maps and features of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's Revolution pack with no cost.

The deal is currently being offered on Xbox Live, according to One of Swords. The offer runs from Friday through Tuesday, May 28th at 1PM EST. Revolution's maps will only be available as a free trial, so you won't get to keep them for free, but this is definitely an interesting strategy in drumming up more potential sales for the additional content.

Black Ops 2 has dominated the Xbox Live most-played list for months, and this incentive is certainly positioning the game to continue that streak for at least one more week. Even if you've been away from the game for a while, this trial presents an interesting opportunity to get back into the multiplayer. If successful, there's a likely chance other platforms might see the same deal eventually.

For what it's worth, we can't believe Activision hasn't attempted something on this scale before. Giving players a hint of free-to-play action for a limited time could pave the way for similar tactics moving forward.

What do you think of the move? Will this get you to pop Black Ops 2 back into your system for a few days?
