‘Black Panther’ May Be Eyeing a ‘Dope’ Director
With Chadwick Boseman set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the currently-filming Captain America: Civil War, we should be hearing about the director of the solo Black Panther film soon enough. While we’re still fired up over the possibility of Selma’s Ava DuVernay possibly taking the gig, another very interesting name has entered the fray.Dope

In Famuyiwa, does Marvel Studios see a passionate filmmaker who can make Black Panther his own or do they see a guy they think they can control? That’s always the question when movie studios recruit directly from the independent film scene.
It would certainly be interesting to see an African-born filmmaker take on an African superhero, and the acclaim for Dope suggests that Famuyiwa will bring a unique and fresh perspective to the MCU. Plus, him getting the gig would allow DuVernay to take on Captain Marvel, which would help further spread these diverse voices across the Marvel universe. That is only a good thing.
Black Panther is set for release on July 6, 2018.
