Well, folks, here it is: possibly the most anticipated Marvel trailer in recent memory. Black Panther is the titular superhero’s first solo outing since he was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, and is also the first Marvel movie with a predominantly black cast. Welcome to Wakanda, the African nation T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) presides over, which has been in turmoil since the untimely death of T’Challa’s father, the former king. The country is also the subject of some contention due to its proximity to a very important (yet fictional) metal.

And that metal is the topic of conversation that opens the trailer in a scene between Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaue. It’s not long before we’re thankfully removed from that drab interview room and transported to the vibrant country of Wakanda, home to that metal everyone can’t stop talking about — vibranium.

Wakanda looks, for lack of a better phrase, sick as hell. This is unlike any Marvel world we’ve seen before, and although it’s earthbound, it has all the visual flair of the MCU’s otherworldly films, and then some. The cast is incredible, of course, and we get a brief peek at that big chase scene we’ve seen in all those set photos and videos in recent months, and yeah, it looks pretty damn cool.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Black Panther follows T’Challa, who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically-advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Sterking K. Brown, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker, and hits theaters February 16, 2018.
