Distraught though we were to learn that HBO's gangster drama 'Boardwalk Empire' would close up shop after only five seasons, everything we've heard of Nucky's final bow to date has us more and more excited. Now, the fifth and final year of 'Boardwalk Empire' has an official September premiere, accompanied by both good and bad news for fans of the drama.

Emerging from the TCA press tour panels, HBO has confirmed that the final season of 'Boardwalk Empire' will premiere on September 7, the first of only eight episodes to close out the series. That's the bad news to be certain, but also confirmed is that the final season will jump forward into the 1931 era behind the Great Depression with Nucky (Steve Buscemi) making plans for life after prohibition.

No major casting announcements for the final season have yet been revealed, though we've at least seen the haunting first teaser with Nucky in silhouette, with shots of an abandoned boardwalk. In the spot, the deposed Atlantic City treasurer is heard to say, "the trick’s to stay alive long enough to cash out."

We've included the teaser for you above, but what say you? Are you looking forward to the final round for 'Boardwalk Empire,' even if the season 5 farewell is only eight episodes? Tell us what you want to see when Nucky, Lucky, Meyer, Al and the rest return on September 7!
