There lies a world of tension to be resolved when 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 pours out its premiere on Sunday, September 23, because liquor and blood rarely stop flowing. Yesterday we caught our first official looks at the new season in the form of brand new photos, but we'd never let things run dry. How would you like to know what 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 has in store for its first batch of episodes?

Beginning with "Resolution" on Sunday, September 23, 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 will pick up the pieces left behind by its devastating second season, which saw several key characters biting the big one, with others forced to flee Atlantic City altogether. As for season 3, we know that Bobby Cannavale joins as series regular Gyp Rosetti, with Stephen Root taking a recurring role.

According to reports, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 3 will open some 15 months after the events of "To the Lost,” landing on New Year’s Eve 1922-1923, but how will things play out across the first few episodes? Thanks to SpoilerTV, we have our first descriptions!

Episode #25: “Resolution”:

Nucky makes a New Year’s resolution; Margaret eyes a hospital expansion; Gillian builds a new business; Van Alden calls a gangster’s bluff. (Written by Terence Winter; directed by Tim Van Patten.)

Episode #26: “Spaghetti & Coffee”:

Nucky mixes business with pleasure in NYC; Gyp makes a power play in Tabor Heights; Eli gets a new boss. (Written by Howard Korder; directed by Alik Sakharov.)

Episode #27: “Bone for Tuna”:

Nucky receives a high honor; Margaret pitches a higher authority; Gyp negotiates a stopgap liquor deal. (Written by Chris Haddock; directed by Jeremy Podeswa.)

Lots of interesting tidbits, but we're certainly excited to see that Nelson Van Alder (Michael Shannen) will be present from the very first episode, where previously we thought it might take a few hours to get to him out in Cicero. Any guesses which gangster he might be tangling with?
