'Boardwalk Empire' Cast Reveals Season 3 Details

It's been a solid five months since we all watched the tragic events of 'Boardwalk Empire's second season finale "To the Lost," still halfway out of breath from all the gasping that came with such shocking deaths.  So with a third season already on the way, how does 'Boardwalk Empire' look to pour itself a drink and move on?  How far down the line might we travel?

Speaking at a panel for 'Boardwalk Empire' at the Leonard Goldenson Theatre last at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, series creator Terence Winter and the cast opened up for the first time over precisely when and where the third season of the HBO drama would take the characters.  According to the Deadline account, 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 will open some fifteen months after the events of 'To the Lost," landing on New Year's Eve 1922-1923.

Not only that, but Winter noted of the continuing prohibition of the era that “The world has changed quite a bit. Things have gotten quite a bit more violent as Prohibition has gone on and people are running out of liquor. Hence Nucky’s world’s going to change.”  Not only that, but season 3 will see “consequences and ramifications from what went on at the end of Season 2," including the rise of Al Capone and other famous figures.

For those who caught the reference in the events of "To the Lost," Van Alden and his nanny went on the lam before ending up in Cicero, Chicago, destined to be one of Capone's most notorious stomping grounds.  And don't entirely count out the Darmody's either, as Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt)'s now-orphaned son will continue to be part of the series.

Plus, a trumpet-player?  Speaking about his role in the coming season, Michael Shannon made several cryptic remarks to bands and his own ability to play the trumpet, which seemed to elicit sharp looks from both Winter and Steve Buscemi, Winter even saying "Oh. Thanks for giving it away.”

'Boardwalk Empire' season 3 will uncork in September, but in the meantime, what say you?  Can the show survive without Michael Pitt, or will the well run dry?  What would you like to see from the show's third effort?  Give us your champagne dreams in the comments below!
