The news is good for fans of HBO's 'Boardwalk Empire,' but the news is even better for viewers of the network's post-Katrina drama 'Treme,' which has been off the air for over a year. HBO has officially issued season 3 premiere dates for both series, within just weeks of one another. So, when can fans look forward to having their favorite dramas back?

Still riding high from its summer successes in 'True Blood' and the Aaron Sorkin drama 'The Newsroom,' HBO is already mapping out its fall plans by granting season 3 premiere dates for both prohibition gangster drama 'Boardwalk Empire,' as well as New Orleans drama 'Treme.'  'Boardwalk Empire' will return for its third season on Sunday, September 16 at 9:oo p.m. 'Treme,' on the other hand, will follow a week later by premiering Sunday, September 23 at 10:00 p.m.

Though, when 'Boardwalk' returns it'll be without Michael Pitt's Jimmy Darmody, who was -- SPOILER ALERT -- famously killed off in the climax of season 2 finale "To the Lost." Paz de la Huerta's Lucy Danziger will no longer be present either, even as her character remains alive. Joining 'Boardwalk Empire‘s third season are Bobby Cannavale as series regular Bugsy Siegel and Stephen Root in a recurring role.

Unlike 'Treme's' 11-episode season 2, which last aired on July 3, 2011, the show's third outing will return to a 10-episode format when it returns in September.

What say you? Is your fall looking brighter now that you know when 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Treme' will return? Tell us what you're most excited to see from either in the comments!
