Kyle Mooney’s Brigsby Bear is an odd, weird, lovable movie about a person learning for the first time how the real world works. Mooney plays a young lad who’s watched one television show, called Brigsby Bear Adventures, for his whole life — until one day when it suddenly ends. [This post contains some minor SPOILERS for the plot of the movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet and want to go in blind, read no further!]

Kyle Mooney’s character has been raised on this one TV show for his entire life, created by his parents, or who he thinks are his parents. When the show abruptly stops, and when Mooney is taken away from his parental figures, he sets out to recreate the lost episode himself.

The video, posted to YouTube on Wednesday, shows the ending of that particular episode, starring Kate Lyn Sheil and Mark Hamill as Brigsby Bear himself. The way it’s filmed reminds me of a lot of low-budget kids’ programming from another era, and the plot is just about as easy to follow. Underneath it all is the message Brigsby Bear teaches in every episode, and the one lesson Mooney has heard throughout his life: don’t be curious about your world.

Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

Brigsby Bear Adventures is a children's TV show produced for an audience of one, James (Kyle Mooney). When the show abruptly ends, James' life changes forever and he sets out to finish the story himself.

Brigsby Bear is playing in select theaters now.
