Adam Sandler's film career may not bring the excitement it once did, but when the iconic funnyman comes to TV, he's got our attention. Fresh off its Golden Globes 2014 nomination, 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' has tapped Sandler to partner up with Andy Samberg for its post-Superbowl episode, but as whom?

Somewhat unsurprisingly, E! reports that Sandler will in fact play himself on the landmark episode, while FOX itself isn't offering any details of the guest spot just yet. We'll take a shot in the dark, to say that Sandler films his latest cinematic venture in Brooklyn, for which Jake Peralta (Samberg) and his ilk are tasked to investigate a crime.

Samberg and Sandler have previously worked together in the likes of 'That's My Boy' and 'Grown-Ups 2,' while Sandler previously appeared as himself in Judd Apatow's early FOX comedy 'Undeclared.' In addition to the casting coup, Samberg also earned 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' a Golden Globe nomination this morning for Best Actor in a Television Comedy series (we had our own ideas about that).

For those not yet tuned into the new series, which procured a full-season order earlier this year, Samberg’s ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ follows a diverse group of detectives in a precinct at the very edge of New York City. In addition to Samberg as the lead, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ boasts among its cast ‘The Newsroom‘ star Terry Crews, ‘Last Resort‘s’ Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero and ‘Community‘ and ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ guest Joe Lo Truglio.

Well, what say you? Had 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' been worthy of its own headlines before Adam Sandler crashes the post-Superbowl slot? Tell us what you want to see from the FOX cop comedy's future in the comments!
