Call of Duty: Ghosts to Feature Dedicated ServersLuke Brown |
Infinity Ward will be using dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer, which should go a long way in making the online experience run smoothly.
Though Infinity Ward was already planning to use dedicated servers in some capacity to improve connectivity for Call of Duty: Ghosts, executive producer Mark Rubin gave a few more details about what that meant for players.
"Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts," Rubin wrote. "And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers."
Infinity Ward has kept a rather tight lid on Ghosts' multiplayer, with just a few details here and there about what to expect. Rubin also hinted at better matchmaking, which would be a welcome change to the multiplayer formula. "There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance," Rubin said. "Again these are just some of the things that are going into Call of Duty: Ghosts to give players a great online experience."
Call of Duty: Ghosts will arrive on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Nov. 5. The PlayStation 4 version hits on Nov. 12, with the Xbox One arriving on Nov. 22.
