Good morning! Chances are that you’re just getting up and at ’em now, but a few time zones ahead in sunny France, the film industry has had a busy day. This morning saw the official announcement of the Cannes Film Festival’s class of 2017, with the full Competition and Un Certain Regard slates announced by head honcho Thierry Frémaux in a live press conference in the wee small hours of this morning. As ever, the Competition lineup (the most prestigious program in the world’s most prestigious film festival) boasts a deep roster of cinema’s most respected auteurs, ready to pull back the curtain on some tantalizing-sounding new projects. But let’s not talk around the real news here: Adam Sandler’s going to Cannes, baby.

We reported just this week that the Sandman’s new collaboration with director Noah Baumbach, the multi-generational family dramedy The Meyerowitz Stories, would go to Netflix, and today brings the news that the film will make its debut on the Croisette before that. Though Amazon staked out some territory last year with The Neon DemonThe Meyerowitz Stories and fellow Competition selection Okja (a.k.a. Bong Joon-ho’s monster movie, a.k.a. Rise of Braces Tilda) mark the first appearances at Cannes for fellow streaming giant Netflix. Also repping America: Sofia Coppola will be on the scene with her remake of Civil War-era period piece The Beguiled, Todd Haynes will bid goodbye to language with his partially silent Carol follow-up Wonderstruck, and indie breakouts Josh and Benny Safdie (of Heaven Knows What notoriety) will make their Cannes debut with Good Time.

The international component leaves little to be desired as well. After winning himself plenty of new fans with The Lobster, Greece’s Yorgos Lanthimos will stick with the English language for The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Lynne Ramsay will emerge from the hibernation I assume she’s undertaken since We Need To Talk About Kevin dropped in 2011 to show off her latest effort You Were Never Really Here. You may remember Euro-talents Michael Haneke and Michel Hazanavicius from Oscar ceremonies past (Amour contended for Best Picture, and The Artist won in 2011); they’ve both got new pictures as well.

The Special Screenings section ain’t nothing to sneeze at neither. TV comes to Cannes with the Twin Peaks revival and Jane Campion’s second go-round with Top of the Lake, and Kristen Stewart will get behind the camera as the director of her debut short film. The full list is below (via Indiewire), so take a gander and do yourself a favor by digging into the back filmographies of the masters In Competition:
