'Captain America 2' - now officially subtitled 'Winter Soldier' - takes place in modern day, which means Cap's flame, Peggy Carter, won't be returning for the sequel. So Steve Rogers is gonna need a new woman in his life and Marvel has narrowed down their search to three actresses for the role.

The female lead in 'Captain America 2' will be that of Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy, played by Hayley Atwell in the original film. According to the NY Post, Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones ('Like Crazy') and Imogen Poots ('Fright Night') are front-runners for the role.

Assuming they're going to keep continuity, Sharon would be British, which may give Jones and Poots a leg up. But Kendrick is an Oscar-nominated actress ('Up in the Air') and can do a decent British accent.

Whichever actress chosen for the role would join Captain America himself, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie (playing Falcon) and Sebastian Stan, who'll be returning as Bucky Barnes. (But wait, didn't Bucky die in the first movie? Ah yes, but he's been brought back to life as an evil, "winter soldier"...)

'Captain America 2' is set to hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
