Basically read this post while imagining multiple siren emojis between every word.

It’s January 2017, the start of a new year full of promising movies and movie news, not the least of which is today’s announcement that Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum are both circling a project from Paramount titled Triple Frontier.

Give yourself a minute. Let it sink in.

Sources told Variety that Tatum and Hardy, two of the most marketable and talented stars working today, are both in early talks for the film, which has been in development for a good long while. They’re negotiating all kinds of stuff right now, as they both have schedules full of conflicts so it’s far from a done deal, but come on. Paramount isn’t going to hit on a pairing more perfect than this.

The film itself has been in development ever since Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt LockerTriple Frontier was supposed to be her and writer Mark Boal’s follow-up before she turned her attention to Zero Dark Thirty and later bowed out of the movie altogether. According to Variety, everyone from Tom Hanks to Leonardo DiCaprio to Will Smith to Johnny Depp had all shown interest in the project.

The title is taken from the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers come together — called “la triple frontera.” It’s a hotbed of organized crime that’s difficult to police. No word on who the two actors might be playing (but let’s hope the studio hires Latinx actors for Latinx parts). Director J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost, A Most Violent Year) is on board to head the film.
