Perhaps due to the success of the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' and 'Smurfs' franchises, 'Chip 'n Dale' are going to be brought to the big screen in a similar way as Disney is pursuing a live action/animation hybrid feature film version of their origin story.

This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who note that commercial director Robert Rugan has pitched Disney an idea that he's going to start writing that's about the beginning of their Rescue Ranger adventures. For those who never saw the three seasons of the animated show 'Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers,' the duo play crime fighters/detectives who team up with two mice named Monterey Jack and Gadget Hackwrench and a fly named Zipper. It is currently unknown if the supporting players will be a part of these new adventures.

Arguably, this could work, though most of the live action animation hybrids have gone for the lowest common denominator, with the aforementioned 'Chipmunks' and 'Smurfs' series and the 'Garfield' and 'Marmaduke' movies more recent examples. Alas, few have made films that were as smart and witty as 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' but it's always possible this has loftier intentions. We doubt it, but one can hope.
