Look who’s back! (Almost.)

According to Variety, Chris Rock is reportedly in talks to host the 88th Academy Awards. Although the Academy declined to comment on the rumor to the trade, an official announcement is said to be on the way.

UPDATE: Chris Rock confirmed the news himself on his Twitter account.

The actor and comedian previously hosted the Oscars in 2005, so we’d at least be in familiar hands. In his opening monologue, Rock referenced the (few) black actors and actresses nominated for awards. If he were to return to the awards stage, I’m sure he wouldn’t hold back from commenting on last year’s Whitest Oscars Ever (and hopefully we won’t experience a reboot of that this year). Either way, the Oscars needs a host with some solid comedic timing and upbeat energy.

Plus, he’s definitely down to return. Last year, Rock told The Wrap that he’d “definitely, definitely” return if they ever asked him. I’m all in for Rock 2016.
